Ok, so the day has finally arrived. All those months ago we received our invitation which set the ball rolling to be here today. The Wedding !!
But first, Kirsty has an appointment in Berwick-upon-Tweed to get ther hair done. We set off after breakfast, and it it is only about a 20 minute drive. Kate is left behind to wash up and do the washing, to have some time out and to get herself sorted for the big day.

Whilst Kirsty in the hairdressers I have time to explore Berwick on foot. It is a walled city with the old walls still in tact. There is the river Tweed to explore and to my surprise it was a town that was well liked by LS Lowry, a painter whom Dennis (my brother) has a particular like for.

After the hairdo, we had a coffee and returned to the car to find a parking ticket !! Not parking straight bewteen the lines, if you please…50 quid, outrageous, especially as it was the car next to me that was askew, but which had gone by the time we returned. I will remain here to fight this one in Court (bloody English).
Back home, and we all scrubbed pretty well. The girls in party frocks with appropriate jackets as unfortuantely the day has turned and there is at times heavy rain and it is very chilly. I’m not so bad as I am wearing my kilt and Harris Tweed jacket.

The idea was to come at 2pm for the 3pm ceremony and from 2-3 it was “Grooms Drinks”, a time for James to get some Dutch Courage and to mingle with the guests. Lucky this was planned as it gave us all something to do while we waited for the marriage celebrant to arrive….he finally go there 45 minutes late, by which time everyone was well oiled and a true party atmosphere was evident.

It was a relaxed, open and lovely ceremony. Abby looked gorgeous and James looked nervous….and then they were Mr & Mrs Galling. Photos took place in the rain and the dry of the machinery shed and barn. We continued to drink awaiting the return of the happy couple and the Mariachi Band played on. Great fun.
Speeches were made, and Rob did a great job with Kate getting a special mention. Then dinner was served, which was delicious, and cake, cheese and then pizza later on. Oh, and lots of wine and beer. It was clear that they know how to party in this part of the world. We took off a bit earlier than the Bride and Groom who left at 1.30am.
Overall, a splendid do which we would not have missed for anything.
