Glasgee

With the morning shift of MH+ Glasgee office closed for the day, we decided to head out and be tourists.

To try and get our head arround the geography of the city we selected the Hop on- Hop Off bus tour. It’s a bit naf but a great way to see new cities. Our only rule is that when you do one, you must sit on the top deck and sit outside. Which we duly did, and froze. Actually, it wasn’t that bad, and at least the rain held off.

We saw a look of the landmarks, took too many blurry photos from the moving bus, saw a lot of the city murals and enjoyed the whole experience. We got off at the University in the West End with a view to seeing the Rennie Macintosh House, but it was closed on a Monday. After a quick stroll around the Uni grounds we hopped back on the bus and returned to near our starting point.

Our next tourist destination was a tea house with the interior designed by Rennie Macintosh, where we had tea (and cake). Very nice indeed. The Rennie Macintosh style is a bit of a favourite of ours, and we had been looking forward very much to seeing his original designs in situ. Kirsty designed our iron front door at Paddington, as a big nod to CRM. By now the time had moved on and we retreated to our flat to eat our takeaway M & S rolls and salads.

Kate is slowing improving but was happy to sit out any more outings that day. Kirsty and I set off to use the Glasgow Metro, which is one line that runs in a circle, but in both directions at the same time. I guess really it is 2 lines, otherwise there would a lot of crashes !!

Our stop was Govan, in search of a church where the oldest grave stones found in Scotland are stored. We found it OK, and the stones, which date back to something like 970AD. A very interesting free tour was just underway so we tagged along.

Back on the train we reversed our first trip and amazingly returned to our starting point. Very easy. Time for a brief rest, shower and out again.

Tonight we are meeting up with our godson, Jeremy Corbett-Wilkins, and his Scottish wife, Fran. We had met her before in Australia. It was their wedding in Italy that we were going to go to in June 2020, but covid put an end to all that. They susequently got married here, and relived the event in Italy when they could.

It was a great evening out, but again we were shattered by the time we got home and straight to bed.
