More Rennie

Kate has been put in charge of finding breakfast spots out and about in Glasgow, as we haven’t had the chnace in Scotland to have breakfast out with a proper coffee.

Yesteday she did well, but today was even better. As we were heading back to the University in the West End, she chose a place out that way. It’s a very student area, and the cafe was in Hillhead. Great food, excellent coffee. Job well done Kate.

As we arrived at the Uni and the Mactintosh House it just started to sprinkle with rain. The forecast was for heavy rain clearing by 1pm, so we have timed our trip well.

The original Macintosh House, which was bequeathed to the Uni, was demolished back in the 70’s. Quite a controversal thing to have done at the time. When building, on the site for their new library and art gallery, it was decided that the exterior of the old house, on the same foot print, would be redone in concrete. Very brutalist. The interior, however, was restored to the original together with all the original Mactintosh (both Charles and his wife, Margaret) designed furniture. The re-creation was done with advice from many people who had visited the house over the years and from old photgraphs. The final product is stunning and it is well worth a visit. So glad we came back after missing out yesterday.

Now, it was time to shop ! We headed back to the city via the Metro and started with a shopping centre, much the same as DJ’s. There was a girl’s floor and a boy’s floor. The boy bought first. With our summer coming up, there are bargains to be had on summer clothes here.

Next we searched out somehwere for lunch. We encountered very loud street preachers who correctly identifed us as sinners, and offered to assit us to repent. We declined and continued upon our sinfull way. Right behind the fanatics Kate spotted a Hugo Boss, so in we went, and when we came out I had purchased a casual jacket. Boy 2, Girls 0.

A late lunch was had, and then more shopping. We found a very trendy place called “End”, and Kirsty bought a lovely shirt. “End” is very cool, hip and young….much like Kirsty. Back to the flat to disgourge the goodies and out again. Kate then scored a new skirt, and by now I was looking for any chair I could to sit down.

Kate left us to catch up with Abby, as they were getting friendship bracelets at Abby’s suggestion. Such a sweet gesture on her part. The bracelets are the same (as far as a can gather) and are “welded” on, not to be removed.

For Kirsty and I, it is home time, eggs on toast.
