The weather report said storms from 2pm, so it was shut the office and head off relatively early. Abby had given Kate the heads up on a good breakfast cafe on the south side, which was our direction of travel today.
There really was no rush as nothing seems to open here before 10am and cafes at 9am. So, we were first at their door, and a lovely breakfast it was too….no need for lunch.
Today we headed to Pollock Park, an enormous parkland south of the city donated to the city by the Maxwell family, whose house remians in the Parklands. But we didn’t come for old houses, or art, or culture, we came for Coos (Cows), and not to be confused with the Cowes from the Borders. Specifically, Highland Cows.

Kate had not seen one close up during our time here, so it was for her that we went. Well, Kirsty and I were secretly excited as well. It’s hard to get anything more Scottish than a big hairy Highland Cow, with a big wet tongue hanging out.
We were not disappointed, with a field full. To top it off 2 calves down to the fence in search of a treat. They head butted for awhile, and then their mum decided to join us as well. Perfect for lots and lots of cow photos.

We did eventually make it to the house for a look around. Such grandeur, but the Maxwell’s were true philanthropists, looking after the poor, opeing the grounds to all of Glasgow, and as I’ve said, finally bequeathing it all the the city.

We made it home before the heavens opened. It was a quiet afternoon, with Kate packing her bags. So sad. She flies home tomorrow from Edingburgh airport. We drove her over, had dinner in her hotel, and said our farewells. It has been a whirlwind over the last month. We have seen so much, seen so many people, had so many parties, drinks, dinners, lunches, breakfasts, driven far too many miles in too short a time….the list goes on and on. It has been such fun, and we will miss our travel buddy very much.
Tears before bedtime.
